Ortofon SPU Gold

It doesn't take a connoisseur to appreciate why SPU Gold has been so named: the cartridge body, cantilever, plug, and finger lift have been plated with 24-carat gold. The SPU Gold is a deluxe version of SPU legendary cartridges designed on Ortofon's patented moving coil principle. However, in the development of SPU Gold, we sought to maintain as much as possible of the original SPU construction while at the same time making a few important modifications.

SPU Gold modifications:

  • incorporation of a new True Elliptical diamond stylus
  • the use of silver wire for the coil windings and the entire arrangement of leads
  • more secured method of mounting of the headshell

The SPU Gold has truly outstanding sound reproduction qualities. It delivers a transparent, open, and detailed midrange and a full-bodied bass. Its stereo imaging lets the listener experience the music in front of his speakers. To obtain all the benefits of the SPU Gold's superb performance capabilities, however, it is essential that correct mounting be achieved. The tonearm used must be as rigid as possible with a minimum of resonance.
