very happy with this product.
I took a chance on this new-to-market MC cartridge. Early adopters can sometimes get burned but, with this purchase, I lucked out. My stand out sonic signatures are a low end solidity and high end articulation. As the listening hours mounted (50-100) it got better and better. It is the cliché of record collection rediscovery all over again.
The X series has exactly the exactly the same dimensions as the Quintet, making the headshell a perfect fit. This headshell also happens to have the easiest azimuth screw placement of the Ortofon family another definite plus if used with a microridge stylus. Finally, its very well priced. No frills, just good honest contruction.
I should change my cartridge more often. Lovely sound emitting from the stereo. Prompt delivery too. Excellent.
For me it's a comeback since I've used ortofon super OM 30 and 40 years ago, before I found about mc cartridges.
I've used mc cartridges, the X30 sounds more detailed from the beginning, now after some 30 hours break in I find it to be superior comparing to Sumiko Evo 3 (rip), denon dl103r and AT33ev
The stylus tracks the record accurately without any skipping. No distortion audio output is clean, and smooth record playback.
I just installed and calibrated the X40 on a Thorens TD1601. You don't need to be an audiophile - although it helps to have a trained ear - to hear the sheer honesty of this MC cartridge, the entire range comes alive - clean lyrics on gut punching bass and perfect highs - not distractingly over bright. Try it an rediscover what has been hiding in the groove!

A new cell is not a "repair", it's a rebirth!
The Ortofon repair experience was excellent. I have loved the Ortofons I’ve had. It’s at least 6 now with 3 of these being Jubilees. I pinged the cantilever off this one a few years back but last month I decided to send it to Ortofon for their repair scheme at €1300. The piss off was the bank charged me £33 for a non UK currency transfer. It got held up at Danish customs for 10 days but was indeed returned to me within Ortofons estimated one month turn around. I did have to inform UK customs that this was my property sent back to the manufacturer for repair but this was done by email and no forms to fill in.
The cartridge is now bedding in and I like what I'm hearing so much so that the EMT JSD 5 may be relegated to the subs bench.
Thanks and Regards,
Alan
Had the MCX20 for a few days now more than pleased with it. System-
Eclipse turntable - Origin Live Onyx tone arm- Clearaudio Nano preamp (impedance loading 51 Ohms). Technics SU700 MKII. Listen to the setup with Audio Technica / Shelter / Hana cartridges the MCX20 tracks and sounds better.
I bought the MC X40 to have another good, less expensive moving coil to complement my extraordinary MC Verismo. Having owned a Quintet black S previously, I expected something similar. Boy was I surprised! The MC X40 is a lot closer in sound quality and character to the MC Verismo than I would have ever guessed. In fact it's better than my previous Cadenza Black too! It is superb cartridge, not only for the price, its superb regardless of price. It differs from its expenentially more expensive stablemate only in the n'th degree of refinement. They are both equally revealing and incredibly dynamic, the Verismo only differentiating itself by having an almost imperceptible extra aura of musicality. In all but the most revealing of equipment, I'm pretty sure that they would sound virtually identical. Ortofon should feel really proud that they have been able to produce a cartridge of this caliber at what amounts to an enthusiast price.
Great
Top product for a Sl23 turntable.
